這次來看新聞溫習大數值數字、一些豐富寫作的描寫用字和犯罪主題相關單字。
十月十九日，陳列於羅浮宮的法國王冠珠寶被4名蒙面盜匪偷走，估計僅用時7分鐘便成功盜取總值一億二百萬的歷史文物珠寶。落筆之時，盜竊案發生至今逾四天，疑犯仍未落網。
劈頭先來簡單數學課：英文的多位數和中文不同，以1000為單位，這邊直接放一個對照表，請背，謝謝：
1萬 – 10 thousand (10 個 1000) (Ten thousand)
10萬 – 100 thousand (Hundred thousand)
100萬 – 1 million (留意串法，兩個 L)
1000萬 – 10 million
1 億 – 100 million
10 億 – 1 billion
1 兆 - 1 trillion (或者 1 million million, 1 之後 12 個零)

聖物盒。來自 “Relic” (n.) 歷史遺物、聖物。

2022 DSE的閱讀卷 Part A (line 14, Q5) 曾問過 "Relic" 一字，只得37% 考生答對。
雖然是文章理解為首的題目，不過要答中 Marking 則需要本身理解到 "Relic" 這字帶有 「過去」 、 「歷史」 等性質。文中則是指 「傳統漫畫行業衰退，恐怕將成為歷史文物」。
"Reliquary" 我還以為 -ry 字尾加上後面的飾品名詞會是形容詞，原來是個複合名詞 (Compound noun，由兩個名詞組成的名詞)。

說到飾品，耳環 “Earring”、頸鏈 “Necklace” 應該耳熟能詳，我也是讀了新聞稿才知道有分：

箍冠，皇后的王冠、珠寶頭飾

胸針

還有不同寶石：綠寶石 “Emerald”、藍寶石 “Sapphire”，文學上常用作比喻眼睛和瞳孔顏色。
這邊用了一個動詞： “Adorn”，裝飾、裝戴的意思，同義詞當然有前篇也提過的 “Ornament”、“Decorate” 。
下面一段擷自另一篇BBC報道：

拉丁文的外來詞，指方法，通常用作指疑犯的作案手段。

戰利品、贓物。也是 「臀部」 的俚語，切記語境的重要性，不要誤用。

Get away (verb phr.) 離開、逃走。常見Phrasal verb。
這一小段精簡地總結了整件盜竊案，甚至從上面幾組單字已能推敲出段落的大部份中心思想。
一個更進階的寫作心法：前篇提及過Vocab應像調味般讓寫作更上一層，而調味也不是求其亂灑，”Intentional” 有意、有心思的調味才能煮出佳餚。
